2020-22 Scholarship on HOLD

The Ngati Whakaue Education Endowment Trust Board in conjunction with Toi Ohomai and MDA Experiences are proud to support the Ngati Whakaue Education Endowment Adventure Tourism Scholarship Programme. This scholarship is established to assist Ngati Whakaue descendants to obtain employment, training and junior leadership positions within the Adventure Tourism industry and obtain the qualifications listed below.

Regrettably, low interest in the qualification programme has resulted in minimal enrolments for Semester 1, 2020 (in Certificate in Outdoor & Adventure Education at Mokoia campus).

The Scholarship opportunity is therefore on hold and as per the letter from Toi Ohomai, will be reviewed again for Semester 2, 2020.

Should the Scholarship reopen, applications would be available to:

  • Ngati Whakaue descendants of an original Owner in the Pukeroa Oruawhata Block; or
  • Descendants of one or more of the 6 Koromatua of Ngati Whakaue

‘Kia Ruku Kia Ora’
Dive and Stay Alive

Sponsorship is available to Ngati Whakaue in the Kia Ruku Kia Ora (Dive HQ) programme at Dive HQ, Rotorua.
Purpose:  To increase the diving capacity of Ngati Whakaue to gather kai moana for our local Marae.
Description:  Ngati Whakaue participating in the programme will learn:
  • To enjoy and to be safe and confident in and around water-ways gathering kai moana
  • Technical and diving skills
  • Knowledge, skills and attitudes that can, post Kia Ruku Kia Ora, enable them to enage in further dive courses should they so wish.
Sponsorship:  The level of sponsorship will be 75% of the course fee.
Course fee to be paid in full  by successful applicants, to Dive HQ Rotorua.  If the dive course is successfuly completed, at the end of the course, NWEETB will reimburse 75% of the course fee paid.  A report will be provided to NWEETB by DiveHQ Rotorua.
The Board will also consider applications for the Rotorua DiveHQ Re-Activate programme.

Application is on a first in first served basis - places are limited to 12.
